Jacob Ross attended Pitt-Greensburg from which he graduated in 2023 with a BS in information technology.
What brought you to Pitt-Greensburg?
The atmosphere and tight-knit feel of the campus was very appealing to me. A lot of colleges seemed very daunting to me because they are so big, but at Pitt-Greensburg I felt right at home while still getting a quality education and broadening my horizons.
Were you a commuter or a resident?
Commuter
What activities were you involved with as a student?
I was the IT club president, a major mentor, and a computer/information science tutor.
Did you have a favorite professor, staff member, coach, or mentor that really impacted your life?
Several of my professors certainly had a huge impact on me, but the professor who impacted my life the most was Dr. Paul Bouthellier. The things that he taught me are things that I use on a daily basis at work and the content of his courses laid the foundation for my career.
Of all the classes you took, what is the one class you would recommend everyone take? Who taught the class? Why would you recommend it?
That would have to be Intro to Computer Science Concepts because I found it fascinating to learn how computers truly work at the most basic level and how much technology has advanced within just the last one hundred years.
What do you remember most vividly from your time at Pitt-Greensburg?
The valuable skills and wisdom that I learned in my classes from my professors.
What have you been up to since graduation?
I am currently working as a Systems Analyst/Programmer for a medium-sized local construction company.
How did your experiences and education at Pitt-Greensburg prepare you for life after college?
The skills that I gained from my education were certainly the most valuable part of my experience at Pitt-Greensburg, but being able to serve in various positions really helped me develop my communication and leadership skills which has been very helpful in the workplace.
As an alum, how do you support Pitt-Greensburg?
I try and attend events whenever I can and keep in touch with faculty so that I can inform them of the current expected competencies in the modern workforce.
What advice do you have for your fellow Bobcats?
Take advantage of all of the resources available to you and be sure to start planning as soon as you can. Graduation comes quick so enjoy every minute of college.
