Durufle's sublime setting of the Requiem mass for choir and organ is a masterwork without peer. It is transcendent, hopeful, but also terrifying and heartwrenching. Composed in 1947, it featured Durufle's rich and contemporary approach to harmony, often dense and jarring but always moving and memorable. At the same time, every movement connects back to the earliest music of the Western Art repertoire. Of the work, Durufle said: "this Requiem is entirely composed on the Gregorian themes of the Mass for the Dead. Sometimes the musical text was completely respected, the [organ] part intervening only to support or comment on it; sometimes I was simply inspired by it or left it completely. In general, I have sought above all to enter into the characteristic style of the Gregorian themes.”
The concerts will also feature "The Dark Hills," by composer at BCC singer Paul Deemer.
And, the Pitt-Greensburg Chorale will perform the WORLD PREMIERE of Listen by Tim Takach, written for the Pitt-Greensburg Chorale

Friday Evening Music Club at the Westmoreland Symphony
FEMC was founded in 1944 to promote the performing arts in Westmoreland County and give musicians a place to practice and socialize. It is a community of area musicians, some of whom are private music teachers, but many who work in other fields and enjoy music-making as an avocation. Some club members simply enjoy being part of the organization by attending the concerts; the concerts are open to members and non-members alike.
In 1969, FEMC’s leadership helped to found the Westmoreland Symphony. Reuniting with them fosters the musical growth of our shared community, with mutual support, stability, and strength. We have common interests and common fellowship, but also provide unique avenues into the experience and sharing of great classical music. We now celebrate our shared roots and come back home to be together again.
