Pitt Police-Greensburg Department Facts
- Consists of a police chief, police sergeant, and eight full-time officers.
- All officers are certified through Pennsylvania Police Officer Educations and Training Commission (Act 120) as municipal police officers
- Officers are armed and on duty 24 hours per day
- Officers are trained in first aid, automated external defibrillator (AED), and CPR
- Officers attend in-service police training programs to stay aware of changing laws and familiarize themselves with procedures and policies relating to safety
- The police department employs a full time dispatcher certified through the Association of Public Safety Communicator Officials (APCO)
- Officers assist and participate in a variety of crime prevention programs
Crime
The University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg is responsible for complying with the Federal Jeanne Clery Act, which mandates the collection and dissemination of crime information and the adherence to specific safety policies. In addition, the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg complies with Chapter 3 of the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting Act; all crimes occurring on campus are reported monthly to the Pennsylvania State Police.
The University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg Police Department maintains a close working relationship with area law enforcement agencies, specifically the Pennsylvania State Police, which is located a short distance away, and provides police assistance if needed. Criminal prosecution of incidents that occur on campus are referred to the local District Justice or to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office.
The Police Department also investigates violations of the Pitt-Greensburg Student Code of Conduct and generally refers these incidents to the Judicial Board.
Crime alert notices are distributed and posted throughout the campus in compliance with University of Pittsburgh policy and with the Jeanne Clery Act.
Campus Security Authority
The Clery Act requires the University of Pittsburgh to collect crime reports from a variety of individuals and organizations that Clery considers to be Campus Security Authorities. These include security and law enforcement officers; deans; coaches; residence hall staff; overseers and advisors to student clubs and organizations; and other campus officials who have "significant responsibility for student and campus activities," such as, but not limited to, student housing, student discipline, and campus judicial proceedings.

Emergency Call Boxes
Emergency call boxes are located throughout the campus and ring directly into the Pitt-Greensburg Police Department. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors are encouraged to use these telephones in the event of an emergency.
Fire Inspection and Drills
Fire safety inspections and drills are conducted once a semester in all residence halls. The Pitt-Greensburg Police Department works with the Hempfield Township Fire Department on all fire-related incidents.
