Room Assignment Process
The first step in the room assignment process is completing the housing application (mid February). By completing the application, current students become eligible to participate in room selection and can access applications for the Westmoreland Hall lottery, Academic Village, and Outdoor Adventure & Community Service community. Room selection is an online process for current students that allows them to pick a specific room and roommates. Room selection is typically in the beginning of April. Students who do not select a room during room selection will be assigned by the Housing Office.
Gender-Inclusive Housing
Students who opt into gender-inclusive housing are agreeing to be placed with other students who are seeking a similar accommodation, who they may or may not know. Students interested in gender-inclusive housing must complete the housing application and the gender-inclusive housing commitment form. Placement for gender-inclusive housing is an interactive process, so it is recommended students complete the commitment form as early as possible but no later than May 24th. Forms received after May 24th will be at a disadvantage for receiving a gender-inclusive assignment as spaces and/or roommates may not be available.
Mixed-Gender Housing
Mixed-gender housing (i.e. students who want to live with specific people of a different gender) is available in all locations via room selection. To select into a mixed-gender space, all roommates must consent to the living arrangement. Therefore, students must select a space during the fill-all times of room selection (i.e. when all bed spaces in the room must be filled by the group selecting).
Westmoreland Lottery 2024 (Current Students Only)
Most spaces in Westmoreland Hall are assigned via the Westmoreland Hall lottery. The Westmoreland lottery application is available after completing the housing application. Students may only enter the lottery as a group of 2 or a group of 4. Gender-inclusive groups must enter the lottery as a group of 4.
Academic Village/OACS Assignments
Students interested in the Academic Village or OACS residential communities must also complete an application for these locations, in addition to the housing application. Selection into these areas is not guaranteed.
The applications for the Academic Village and OACS will be available immediately after completing the housing application. The deadline for these applications is Sunday, March 19th. Students that apply after this deadline may not be considered for acceptance until summer. Students that apply by the deadline and are accepted may select a specific room/roommate during room selection.
Housing and Meal Accommodation Requests
Students that want to inquire about a specific housing or meal accommodation due to a medical condition must contact Disability Resources. It is highly recommended that requests be submitted by May 24th so they can be reviewed while space is available. Housing accommodation requests approved after this date will be placed as space permits. Students can contact Disability Resources at 724-836-7098 or los3@pitt.edu.
Updating the Application
You may update your application until you have been assigned a room by returning to the housing portal and clicking “Update Application.” Updating the application can only be completed prior to receiving a room assignment.
