- Supplemental Instruction (fall and spring only as requested by interested faculty)
- Peer Tutoring (fall and spring only)
- Professional Tutoring
- For math and physics (fall and spring only)
- For composition (fall and spring) (see also Online Writing Center)
*Each year, Dr. Lou Ann Sears is on campus / at work from the end of August through the end of June. In July and August, Dr. Sears is on break, but she checks email twice a week. To minimize chances of delayed response time, please send disability-related inquiries and documentation when her office is still open / before the end of June if possible.

Looking for something to add to your resume? Interested in helping others? The LRC needs Peer Tutors for Fall 2024. Various subjects needed.
Tutor Qualifications:
- Faculty recommendation
- Positive attitude
- Successful completion of course(s) in question
- Conscientious behavior
- Professionalism
- Patience
- Willingness to attend paid training
- Ability to uphold the positive reputation of the LRC
- Time management
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Enrollment in at least 6 credits in an ongoing program at Pitt Greensburg
- Ability to preserve confidentiality
- Ability to abide by LRC policies and procedures
- Willingness to be paid $10 per hour
- People skills
- Willingness to work in one-on-one and/or small-group settings
- Willingness to use Pathways as the tutoring platform
Additional Information
We have two kinds of Peer Tutor jobs: Both the Tutor and Work Study Tutor jobs will be re-posted at the beginning of June 2024. If you aren’t sure if you are eligible for work study, please check with Financial Aid. Once you apply, please email Dr. Sears at los3@pitt.edu to let her know.
June is a good time to apply. The hiring process takes time. Starting in Fall 2024, we will be using Pathways for Peer and Professional Tutoring.
Online Writing Center (OWC)
The Learning Center offers online feedback from Mr. Hitt, our professional composition tutor. To use the OWC, you must have a Gmail account.
All sections of the above form must be completed before you may submit your essay, and as noted on the form, any vague responses may prevent you from receiving feedback. The average turnaround time for papers is 48-72 hours; however, excessive submissions may push that back. If it will take longer for us to get your paper back to you, you will receive an email with an updated timeframe.
Supplemental Instruction
Based on professor requests, we offer Supplemental Instruction - guided help sessions - for certain courses. These courses are subject to change. Professors offering S.I. will announce it in class.
Professional Tutoring
Professional tutors offer two kinds of help: arranged tutoring and drop-in. For drop-in help, simply show up during the tutor’s advertised hours. No appointment is needed. These hours will be posted on the door of the Learning Center, or you may obtain them from the tutors themselves.
