The Da Vinci Society seeks to honor students who are not only broadly educated in the liberal arts and sciences but also globally knowledgeable and aware, and technologically sophisticated. They have demonstrated their leadership skills and their commitment to service to their local community and global society.
The Da Vinci Scholars take their name and inspiration from the great Italian Renaissance figure, Leonardo da Vinci. He was the quintessential broadly educated person. Leonardo’s wide-ranging interests well express the values we seek in the Da Vinci Scholars.
Da Vinci Scholars are those who best represent the loftiest ideals of a Pitt-Greensburg education. High academic achievement is, of course, essential. They must have a significant record of service to the campus and the community, thereby showing their commitment to improving society. They must also have shown leadership, since Pitt-Greensburg graduates are expected to be leaders in their professional and civic lives. They must demonstrate intellectual curiosity about other peoples and cultures. In the past our Da Vinci Scholars have exhibited a wide range of experiences and have come from many different majors and backgrounds.
Benefits
Students recognized as Da Vinci Scholars receive a scholarship to be used for Pitt-Greensburg tuition or a university-approved study-abroad program.
Additionally, Da Vinci Scholars are recognized at the Pitt-Greensburg Honors Convocation and in the Pitt-Greensburg commencement program. Da Vinci Scholars will be distinguished by a medallion worn during the commencement ceremony.
