Assistantship / Study Abroad
Laboratory Assistantships at Pitt-Greensburg:
Westmoreland Emergency Medicine Specialists has an Emergency Scribe Program for their Emergency Departments at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Latrobe Area Hospital, and Frick Hospitals. They have contracted with ScribeAmerica for the past 3 years to hire and train their medical scribes. We have a handful of students who are selected every year for this opportunity.
The job opportunity, “Emergency Physician Scribe,” provides personal assistants to the physician to perform all of their non-patient care tasks. These include documentation, patient tracking, discharge organization, and much more. They are looking for extremely motivated, sharp, and adaptable students who perform well in a fast-paced and high-energy environment. Because he/she will work one-on-one with a board certified emergency physician for the entirety of his/her shift, he/she will become intimately familiar with Emergency Medicine. It is extremely exciting work; he/she will see everything from CPR, to heart attacks, to strokes, to rapid sequence intubation, to chest tube placement and much more. Additionally, the scribes gain first-hand experience documenting exactly like a physician; a skill that is invaluable later for any career in health.
This opportunity is paid. This job is one of a kind; those who have excelled as scribes have consistently progressed to have successful careers in medicine. If a scribe especially impresses a physician, they have been happy to provide a strong letter of recommendation for medical school.
